Assignment 3

1. For this assignment, the quote I chose was from the class lecture by Professor Murdaco. The quote states, "There is also the Necessary and Proper Clause: "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof." This clause is controversial because it gives power to Congress to pass laws "necessary" to accomplish its goals. This, of course, sparks controversy over how the Constitution is interpreted.
Some favor what they call a strict interpretation of the Constitution meaning the government has no right to pass any laws or act in any way not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution. This interpretation is mostly used by conservatives to limit the government's ability to regulate business or provide "privileges" to minority groups. Others favor a more broad interpretation of the Constitution and use this clause as a legal justification".

2. I believe the meaning of this quote is the government has limited power on what they can do and provide for the people of the USA. One half of the Constitution benefits a certain party to help execute "great" things for the people versus the other half uses their power to keep everybody "in order" and do not let the citizens have a powerful voice.

3. I chose this quote because I find it interesting that one half of the Constitution allows Congress to pass laws that are "necessary" to accomplish their goal, and automatically I thought of modern-day Republicans. At this point in time, they will do anything to make sure white supremacy never fades away. For instance, passing strict abortion laws in certain states. It has been rumored that Congress is passing these "necessary" laws because 28% of white women get abortions, 21% black women, 17% Hispanic women, and 10% or less is others. These numbers show that white men are scared they will lose their power, and fade in the background. Time magazine also posted by 2045, white people will become the minority instead of the majority. My point is I thought this part of the Constitution was mentioning Republicans, but it was actually talking about Democrats. I first thought the other half of the Constitution was speaking about Democrats, but it was actually talking about Republicans/Conservatives. I'm surprised this is considered the strict interpretation of government because Conservatives/Republicans cannot do anything or change anything that will please their needs or wants. I would think they would not favor this view and favor the other view.
